Singapore's resort island, packing a theme park, an aquarium and three beaches onto one small island.

Overview

Covering about five square kilometres, Sentosa connects to the mainland by bridge, cable car and monorail. It holds Universal Studios, the S.E.A. Aquarium and a water park, plus the Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong beaches. A suspension bridge at Palawan leads to the southernmost point of continental Asia, and resort hotels and a golf course fill the rest.

History

Formerly a British military base, it was gradually redeveloped as a leisure destination from the 1970s and is now one of Singapore's main tourist areas.
