Overview
Stretching along the Hunza River at about 2,400 metres, the valley is ringed by 7,000-metre peaks including Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar. Apricot orchards and wheat fields terrace the slopes, while Baltit and Altit forts overlook the river. The Karakoram Highway continues to the Khunjerab Pass and Passu Glacier, making Hunza a hub for high-altitude trekking and road trips.
History
Long the seat of the Hunza princely state, with Baltit Fort as its palace; the valley opened up after the Karakoram Highway was completed.
