Overview
On the north-western coast of Luzon, Vigan was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and joined the World Heritage List in 1999. Calle Crisologo keeps a dense row of colonial houses blending Spanish, Chinese and local elements, on cobbles still used by horse-drawn carriages. St Paul's Cathedral, the Bantay bell tower and house museums are nearby, and it is a good place to try Ilocano cooking.
History
Founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and prosperous on trade routes, it was conserved in the late 20th century and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1999.
