Overview
In Ifugao province in the northern Philippines at about 1,500 metres, the Banaue terraces were carved by hand over some two thousand years, reaching dozens of levels. Retained by stone and mud walls, they are irrigated from mountain springs and were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1995. Nearby routes reach the Batad amphitheatre terraces and Bangaan village, on foot or by jeep.
