Overview
The administrative capital of the Netherlands and home to the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. Built in 1913 with donations from many nations, the Peace Palace houses the ICJ and can be visited on timed tours. The Mauritshuis holds Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Madurodam and the Scheveningen seafront are also here.
History
A residence of the counts of Holland from 1248 and a political centre from the 16th century; the Peace Palace opened in 1913 and it has since become a hub for international law and organisations.
