A rainforest reserve on the edge of Lagos with one of Africa's longest canopy walkways, overlooking mangroves and troops of monkeys.
Overview
Established in 1990 across roughly 78 hectares, the centre protects a pocket of Nigeria's coastal wetland and rainforest. Its centrepiece is a 401-metre canopy walkway reaching about 22 metres above the ground, where patas monkeys, peacocks and many birds appear among the treetops. Boardwalks over the swamp and family picnic areas sit below.
History
Created by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation to preserve original wetland habitat amid Lagos's rapid urbanisation, and to serve as an environmental education base.
