Overview
Completed in 1993, the Hassan II Mosque extends out over the Atlantic at Casablanca. Its minaret rises 210 metres, among the tallest anywhere, and the prayer hall holds about 25,000 people under a roof that opens electrically. Inside, zellige mosaic, carved cedar and plaster relief were finished by thousands of craftsmen.
History
Begun in 1986 and completed in 1993 to a design by the French architect Michel Pinseau, it is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors.
