Overview
Built between the 11th and 14th centuries on a hill above the Our valley, Vianden is among the largest feudal castles north of the Alps. Its keep, chapel, knights' hall and kitchen have been systematically restored since the 20th century, and the interior displays medieval arms, furniture and religious art. The medieval lanes of the town below are worth an hour in themselves.
History
Held by the counts of Vianden from the 11th century and later by the House of Nassau, it fell into decay after the 17th and was acquired by the state in 1977 and restored.
