Overview
In the Gulf of Thailand and covering about 78 square kilometres, Koh Rong is one of Cambodia's largest islands. It is known for white beaches such as Long Set and Sok San, clear water and bioluminescent plankton at night. Infrastructure is relatively simple, with lodging from basic bungalows to boutique resorts, and the neighbouring island of Koh Rong Sanloem makes a natural pairing.
History
Long dependent on fishing and small-scale coconut farming, it opened to foreign visitors in the early 2000s and infrastructure has improved gradually since.
