Overview
About 100 kilometres north of Nairobi, Aberdare National Park climbs from 1,800 to 4,000 metres through mountain forest, bamboo and high moorland. Waterfalls and deep gorges cut through it, and elephants, buffalo, leopard and several antelope species live here, along with a refuge population of black rhino. The famous treetops lodges overlook salt licks where animals come at night.
History
Declared a national park in 1950, its treetops lodge became famous when Princess Elizabeth learned of her accession there in 1952.
