Overview
Jaffa, at the southern end of Tel Aviv, is among the oldest ports in the world, its stone lanes, St Peter's Church and flea market preserving an older face. North of it, modern Tel Aviv is known as the White City: about four thousand Bauhaus and international-style buildings were inscribed as World Heritage in 2003. A seafront promenade links the old town and the port, and the beach and cafés are daily life.
History
Jaffa has been a port since the 2nd millennium BC, Jewish immigrants founded Tel Aviv just north of it in the early 20th century, and the White City was inscribed in 2003.
