Overview
On the western coast of Istria, Rovinj's old town occupies a peninsula that was once an island, with houses standing directly on the water. The 60-metre bell tower of Saint Euphemia on the hill is the tallest in Istria and looks over the whole old town and the Adriatic. Lanes wind between galleries and restaurants, and boats run to the nearby islands of Crveni Otok and Sveti Andrija.
History
Ruled by the Republic of Venice for centuries while its people fished and built boats, it turned to tourism and the arts in the late 20th century.
