Overview
Established in 1931, Kakum protects one of the last tracts of primary rainforest in southern Ghana. Seven wooden bridges form roughly 350 metres of canopy walkway, up to about 40 metres above the forest floor, among the first of its kind in Africa. Ground trails below reveal butterflies, birds and duikers, and night walks are also offered.
History
Declared a reserve in 1931, the canopy walkway was built and opened to the public in 1992 and has since become Ghana's flagship ecotourism project.
