Overview
Fiji's third-largest island lies in the north and is called the Garden Island for its rainfall and dense vegetation. Bouma National Heritage Park holds several trails and a three-tiered waterfall, walkable to the Wainibau falls. Offshore on the west side, the Rainbow Reef is famous for soft coral and nicknamed the soft coral capital of the world. The 180th meridian marker and the Lavena coast are also here.
History
Historically a Fijian chiefly domain, Bouma National Heritage Park was established in the late 20th century and is managed with local villages, an example of community-based conservation and tourism.
