A Christmas-themed village sitting exactly on the Arctic Circle, where you can post cards with an Arctic Circle postmark and step across the line.
Overview
Eight kilometres north of Rovaniemi, the village straddles the Arctic Circle, marked by a painted line across the ground. It holds Santa's office (photos available), the Santa Claus Main Post Office, a reindeer farm and sled rides. In winter you can add husky sledding, snowmobiling and aurora hunting; the reindeer ride and an Arctic Circle crossing certificate are the classic rituals.
History
Established by the city of Rovaniemi in 1985, it is recognised as Santa's official home in Finland and the hub of Lapland's winter tourism.
