Overview
Opened in 2017 to a design by Jean Nouvel, Louvre Abu Dhabi is a cultural collaboration between France and the UAE. A cluster of white cubic galleries sits beneath a 180-metre perforated dome; sunlight filters through its layers to create moving patterns inside, the celebrated rain of light. The collection spans civilisations from East and West with loans from French museums.
History
An intergovernmental agreement was signed between France and the UAE in 2007 and the museum opened in 2017, the first in the Arab world to carry the Louvre name.
