Dubai Frame

Overview

Dubai Frame is the largest picture frame structure in the world, 150 metres high and 93 metres wide, with one side facing the skyscrapers of modern Jumeirah and the other facing the historic district of Deira. The transparent glass walkway at the top lets visitors look down over the whole city, and the LED light show at night is spectacular, making it one of Dubai's most distinctive landmarks.

History

Dubai Frame opened in 2018 after nearly four years of construction, designed by the Mexican architect Fernando Donis after an international competition. Its position was deliberately chosen on the ridge between the old and new parts of the city so that visitors standing in the frame see the past on one side and the future on the other.

Getting around

The red and green metro lines cover the main sights and the Nol card works on both; taxis start high, so ride-hailing is better for longer trips

Visa

The UAE grants visa-free entry to Chinese citizens for stays of up to 30 days; a passport valid for at least six months is all that is required, with no advance application.
